Preston secured a morale boosting victory over East of Scotland Champions Lothian Thistle HV at a very wet Middleshot 3G. The final warm up fixture before the big kick off saw a very competitive high intensity match up.
The visitors took the early initiative and created two very similar chances both direct from corners as the crosses were played to the edge of the box and two well struck volleys both just wide. On the half hour Lothians sub
made a rash two footed off the ground challenge on Preston’s Jamie Beaton, and sensibly the referee asked for him to be substituted rather than show a red card.
Preston’s first chance of the match came a few minutes later as Jack McIntyre fed Andrew Gilchrist who shot straight at the keeper. By this point an interesting midfield battle was developing as both sides played some very neat passing football.
Within seconds of the re-start Preston took the lead as a neat flick on saw Kevin Morrison rise above the Lothian keeper to head home. Morrison was in the thick of the action again on the hour mark as a great challenge on the line prevented an equaliser. Lothian then equalised on 75 minutes, their sub (no 15) slotting the ball into the back of the net.
Parity was short lived as a threaded pass by James Martin slipped in sub Liam Todd who drove in on goal and shot from a tight angle to put the home side ahead again and seal the win.
