Dunbar United 1 – 2 Preston Athletic
Preston secured the bragging rights in this East Lothian derby thanks to 1st half strikes by captain Jamie Todd and David Porcher. The Panners had to weather an early storm as Dunbar pushed forward with the strong wind at their backs, Goalkeeper Chris Flockhart’s clearances barely reaching the half way line as the strong wind blew them backwards.
However Preston eventually found their feet and broke forward winning a couple of corners, the clearance from the second corner drew a foul which resulted in a David Porcher deep free kick finding Jamie Todd who coolly took a touch, steadied himself and drilled the ball into the net. The lead doubled soon after as David Porcher’s sweet strike from 35 yards flew past the Dunbar keeper into the corner of the net, this was Porcher’s second outstanding strike in two days as he added to his cheeky lob in the previous night’s U20 Challenge Cup 1st leg tie.
Dunbar pulled a goal back within minutes as a wind assisted corner was cut out at the front post but the ball broke into the air and the on rushing Dunbar centre forward was able to bundle the ball over the line.
Connor Bryden fresh from his equalising goal midweek against Whitehill was causing havoc in the home defence and could have helped himself to a couple of goals during the match but for some fine goalkeeping. Connor and David Smith’s constant running and link up play was impressive to watch.
The 2nd half saw a number of substitutions made by both sides but Preston’s defence held firm to claim the win, marshalled well by Jamie Todd and Darryl Wilson playing against his parent club.
