Match Report – Gala Fairydean Rovers v Preston Athletic

Gala Fairydean Rovers v Preston Athletic
3G Arena, Netherdale, Galashiels
Saturday 26 March 2016

A controversial penalty decision in the second half decided the result at today’s Lowland League encounter between Gala Fairydean Rovers and Preston Athletic.  Up to that point it looked like honours being shared as both sides were pretty evenly matched.  The turning point came in the 75th minute when Preston’s Darryl Wilson was shown a straight red card in the box – not entirely sure why it was a red as he was definitely not last man and keeper Pennycuick had already got a hold of the ball – the mysteries of football!  Preston keeper Craig Pennycuick pulled off an outstanding save but Gala’s Jack Hay pounced on the rebound and fired straight into the back of the net.  Some nice positive link up play today by the Panners – onwards and upwards to our game next week against University of Stirling.  Full time Gala 1-0 Preston.
