Hawick Royal Albert 3 – 0 Preston Athletic
Ferrari Packaging Lowland League
Hawick secured a vital 3 points against an out of sorts 10 man Preston side. The hosts nearly had a dream start with a superb volley from John McInally hit the bar and bounced up off the line to safety. A long clearance then found striker Josh Morris in behind the Preston defence but he could only hit the side netting.
Another long clearance this time from Preston’s Bruce Callan found Greg Douglas but his shot was well saved, Douglas again latched onto a defensive lapse beating kepper Kyle Rankin but could only prod the ball just wide. Jon McInally and then Neil Smeaton both forced Callan int fine stops, Preston’s Michael Park then went on a mazy run leaving defenders in his wake but no one anticipated the cut back.
Preston’s Ross Colquhoun was then sent off for two very quick Yellow cards on 38 minutes but the visitors managed to end the half goalless thanks in part to a fine double stop from Bruce Callan.
Hawick made their superior numbers count in the 2nd period as Josh Morris beat Callan to a floated cross from Ryan Stevenson to head home into the empty net, James McPartlin curled in an effort from the edge of the box as Preston sat off the midfielder giving him time to pick his spot, and then with 5 minutes to go sub Hamish Hunter drove across goal to make it 3 – 0 and complete the victory for the home side.
