Preston Athletic 7 – 2 Tweedmouth Rangers
South Challenge Cup Round 1
Hat tricks from both Ross Colquhoun and Stuart Ritchie sealed Preston’s passage into the second round. New signing Fabio Neto opened the scoring on 15 minutes as Craig Innes did well to win possession, he fed Danny O-Rourke whose ball split the defence and Neto’s deft touch beat the advancing keeper Patterson. Ross Colquhoun converted a penalty soon after to double the advantage, Innes again gave the defence no time to settle, he broke through and was fouled by Patterson for the spot kick. However the visitors who had started the game well got a lifeline as Tweedmouth’s Craig Howard also scored from the spot on the half hour after Colquhoun was adjudged to have handled in the area. In between times Neto was substituted for Stuart Ritchie after the striker appeared to pull up when breaking through on goal.
Moments into the 2nd half Preston eased any nerves when Ritchie collected a cross field pass on his chest and rifled a lovely volley into the net, More good closing down by Ritchie saw the striker break free of the defence and was fouled by Kieran Cromarty to win another penalty which saw Colquhoun calmly send the keeper the wrong way. A couple of minutes later he completed his hat trick with a free kick 30 yards out that went under the wall and keeper.
Kenny Erskine replaced Neil Shave and immediately fed Ritchie who shot home off the post, Ritchie then also completed his hat trick tucking home from close range after keeper John Patterson failed to hold a shot from Liam Todd. Jake Rutherford scored a consolation at the end after slack defensive play by Preston.
