Match Report – Preston Athletic v East Stirlingshire

Preston Athletic 1 – 7 East Stirlingshire
Ferrari Packaging Lowland League
The Shire piled on the misery for 10 man Preston as they ran riot at the Pennypit.
The visitors took the lead in the second minute as Andy Rodgers cut in from the left and shot low past Craig Pennycuick, David Grant headed the 2nd soon after. Rodgers then cut Preston apart for his second of the match. Shire won 2 quick penalties, Preston’s Scott Barclay was somewhat unfortunate to see yellow for both and an early bath. Pennycuick did well to save the first from Rogers but Grant converted the latter as the visitors went in 4 up at the break.
Moments into the second period Shaun Conway nearly found a way back into the match but shot just wide, but controversially the Shire broke up the park and despite the linesman’s early flag for offside Grant knocked the ball home un-challenged and the referee allowed the goal to stand for the strikers hat-trick.
Shire were relentless and only a point blank save from Pennycuick denied Grant another. Connor Greene then got on the score sheet as he netted from outside the area as a Jamie Glasgow shot was well saved but Greene was alert to the rebound.
The 10 men had fought well but and got some reward for their endeavour as Jason Young collected a Kevin Keane ball, Young held off two men to slot home into the bottom corner. Rodgers completed his hat-trick with a run across the box and an angled drive that wrong footed Pennycuick.
