In horrendous playing conditions at Pennypit Park, Preston faced local opposition in Tranent Juniors in their penultimate friendly match.

The away side played some great football in the opening 5 minutes and got their reward when Kenny Fisher fired home from inside the box. They doubled their lead on 15 minutes when Kayne Paterson fired in from a cross by Kenny Fisher. They continued to dominate the opening part of the match, but to Preston’s credit, they had chances to get a goal back, when first Greg Binnie headed over then Mike McFarlane hit the post with a shot on 29 minutes, set up by Binnie also,

But Tranent got three more goals prior to the break when John Ferguson scored after he tapped in from a cross by Kayne Paterson. Then Kenny Fisher tapped in his second of the match on 37 minutes. On 41 minutes Ferguson fired home from close range, set up by Kenny Fisher,

The second half got off to a good start for the visitors when Kayne Paterson got his second of the match and his team’s sixth when he¬†latched onto a through ball from Ferguson.
They went for a seventh goal but Preston hit what turned out to be a consolation goal when Gavin Stevenson tapped in from close range.

Both teams had a couple of chances near the end. Jack Jardine hitting a great free-kick which Peter Horne turned over the bar. Jason Young fired just wide for Preston whilst Cameron Reynolds hit two shots close for the visitors, both of which were dealt with well by Pennycuick in the Preston goal.

The Tuesday prior to this match, Preston beat Dalkeith Thistle a the Pennypit with Greg Binnie putting in a man of the match performance, scoring two and setting up Chris Inglis and Gavin Stevenson for their goals. Stewart Adams Scored Dalketh’s Consolation.
