Grotlin Stars as Panners Win at East Mains

League leaders Preston travelled the short distance to East Mains to face Ormiston in an East Lothian derby. The last time they met was in the East of Scotland Qualifying League where Preston ran out 5-1 winners at the Pennypit.

Preston went into this game still without suspended Marc Reid and Liam McFarlane who was away on his honeymoon and injured pair Jack Jardine & Paul McCathie.

It was the hosts that took the lead when Myles Doig was set up by David Nash to fire home past Inglis to make it 1-0.  The league leaders looked shaken, but ended the half the stronger side and score two goals before the break to go in ahead.

On 40 minutes, Kieran Jack profited from good play by Greg Binnie who set him up for the equaliser. Then 2 minutes later Jonny Grotlin headed home a Macaulay Woodcock free-kick so a slender lead for the panners going into the second half.

The second half was a tight affair with both teams chasing for the next goal to either kill the game or equalise and it was Preston who got the killer third goal when striker Greg Binnie got on the scoresheet after being set up by strike partner Jonny Grotlin who unselfishly passed to him to finish.

Greg Binnie then turned provider as Grotlin got his second and Preston’s fourth of the afternoon on 63 minutes.

The home team did try to get back into the contest but couldn’t find the net and it was the visitorswho made it two in a row over their East Lothian rivals to remain top of the East of Scotland league.
